English: GRAND AEROSTATIC BALLOON
in which M. Blanchard on Sat. Oct. 16th 1784 ascended from the Royal Military Academy at Little Chelsea[1] a fourth Time into the Atmosphere accompanied by the ingenious W. Sheldon. __ at Ten Minutes after Tewelve the two gallant adventurers preceded by two small Ballons as Signals after taking leave of their generous Host & a numerous circle of Nobility & Friends, arose with the most majestic grandeur & wafted by the prayers & plaudits of upwaards of Four Hundred Thousand Spectators in Eighteen Minutes were lost in AEther __ after a number of astonishing maneuvers & Evolutions the Travelers made a step at Sunbury ? where for the expedition their Machine the gallent Sheldon (unwillingly) descended & left his friend to pursue alone this Journey through "the tractless void", who after passing over Guildford Farnham &c. &c. about 3 o'clock in the afternoon finding the day too far spend to cross the Channel to Brest after hovering a considerable Time over Portsmouth the Isle of Wight &c. &c. alighted at Rumsey near Southampton and _ admidst universal acclamamations [sic] finished by far the most extraordinary Journey ever performed by a sublunary beeing.

The Military Academy (1770-1789) in Little Chelsea was a private educational institution established and presided by Lewis Lochée, an immigrant from the Austrian Netherlands who, having been granted an annual pension by George III to encourage his work, described it in 1777 as "Royal Military Academy" (see J.E.O.Screen: The 'Royal Academy' of Lewis Lochée in Journal of the Academy for Army Historial Research 8, no 283 (1992), p 143-56)
